PARIS, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Man does not live by bread alone, so the European Space Agency wants a French chef to whip up some sun-dried tomato and soya rice pudding for space flights.
The BBC said Ducasse and his food academy are concentrating on how to make onions, potatoes, rice, lettuce and spinach endure 1,000-day space flights, to nourish the astronaut soul as well as the body.
SPRING VALLEY, N.Y., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A New York rabbi allegedly seduced a member of his congregation by claiming to be the messiah and offering her sex therapy.
The woman filed suit against Rabbi Mordecai Tendler of Rockland County last week, accusing him of deceiving and violating her, the New York Post reported.
Adina Marmelstein, 43, said Tendler was acting as a counselor and spiritual authority but went "beyond all bounds of civility and decency." Tendler's attorney called the charges "utterly false."
Attorney Martin Stewart Frankel said Tendler's congregation at Kehillat New Hempstead "knew or should have known" what was going on in the sexual therapy sessions he offered.
Marmelstein said Tendler threatened to have her "placed in a straitjacket" and banned from the congregation if she told anyone about their sessions.
The Godcast Network Web site said it already has had 1 million visitors from 150 countries downloading the word of God to listen to on their MP3 players.
"The genre has just taken off and exploded. It's the fastest-growing genre in podcasting," Craig Patchett, 43, who established the site last year, told the New York Daily News.
So-called godcasts run the gamut from Christianity to Hare Krishna and paganism. Some of the podcasts are even in Klingon -- the made up language that was part of the "Star Trek" tradition. Vatican Radio even offers a weekly show.
"I don't like to preach, I just try to inspire," said the Rev. Roderick Vonhogen, who has 500 parishioners in Utrecht, Netherlands, but 15,000 podcast listeners have downloaded his thoughts since he started podcasting during a trip to Rome.
The guns -- including sawed-off shotguns wrapped in blankets, pistols that looked old enough to be relics and hollowed-out hunting rifles in shopping carts -- were turned in by citizens of Compton who were taking advantage of the sheriff's department offer to swap their hardware for gift cards they could use for last-minute Christmas shopping.
The authorities were hoping the program might disarm gang members -- or at least get some guns out of circulation -- but the Los Angeles Times reported most of the people who showed up Saturday morning for the gun swap were ordinary people desperate for extra buying power.
"I'm here because I need the money," said one 32-year-old man who -- like most others in line -- wanted to remain anonymous. "I'm going to Toys R Us to get my three kids a G.I. Joe, a Barbie play set and a video game."
Those who showed up for the event with a functioning weapon were eligible to swap it out for gift cards from Circuit City, Ralphs grocery stores or Toys R Us.
