Jan Fetters, a Lake Wales resident since 1999 and a watercolor instructor at the Lake Wales Arts Center, captured her first best of show award Nov. 12 at the Highlands Festival of the Arts.
Ridge Art Association is seeking entries for The 56th Anniversary Fine Arts Exhibition. Artists are invited to compete for $3,800 in total prizes, including a top prize of $1,500 for best of show. Original artworks created in the past two years are eligible for submission. This exhibition is open to all artists. The entry fee is $30 for non-members, and $25 for the association's members, for up to three pieces. Interested artists may join Ridge Art at the time of entry.
It is open to all artists, older than the age of 18, working in oils, acrylics, drawing, watercolors, graphics, computer art, mixed media, fiber, sculpture and photography. Shipped entries must arrive by Jan. 4. The receiving dates for hand-delivered entries are: Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Jan. 7 from 8:30-11 a.m. Judging begins at 11:30 a.m. and is judged from the actual artwork. A Judge's Critique will be held Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
Fred Burton of Memphis, Tenn., is judge. Burton has a master's degree in fine art from Wichita State University. He is a professor of art at the Memphis College of Art in Memphis.
The public is invited to attend and meet some of the artists. Most of the works presented will be available for sale. The show will remain on view in the gallery through Jan. 29.
It will be held Jan. 21. Ryan Bailey, award-winning artist and art instructor, will show you how to learn the ins and outs of self-promotion, publicize yourself and your work, price art and more.
Class is limited to 30 people. Museum members pay $30, with non-members $40 and students $20. There is an added $5 materials fee. Call 688-5423 to register by phone.
