Swan died Friday in St. Peter, where he had been confined at the state security hospital since he was committed in 1997, the Independent of Marshall reported.

Swan, who once ran for a seat on the Lyon County Board, pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct for molesting boys. He was sentenced in 1992 to nearly nine years in prison. He was released in 1997 but didn’t go free; the state sought to get him civilly committed as a sexually dangerous person.
