A man was arrested at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday on charges of shoplifting more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from a discount department store. A store employee saw the man put several electronic items in his cart and then try and leave the store without paying. The employee detained the man and called police. The man became angry when the clerk tried to stop him, reports said. He also was charged with assault.
A 30-year-old woman was attacked with a crowbar at 10 p.m. Wednesday after accepting a ride with a man. The victim said she got into the man's car because she was tired of walking. The man pulled off the main road and choked her and demanded sex, she said. She got out of the car and he came after her with the crowbar. She fended off the blows with her arms. She was taken to a hospital by ambulance to be treated for cuts and bruises.
A female bartender was assaulted at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday by a customer. The 23-year-old victim told deputies that a 56-year-old man called her to the pool table to order some drinks and a dance song came on the jukebox. The woman said the man wanted her to get on the pool table. She refused and the man then grabbed her and stuck his thumb in her side. She yelled and other patrons came to her aid and escorted the man out of the bar. She had a bruise on her side, a report said.
A woman called police at noon Wednesday to report an identity theft. She said someone used her personal information to open a cable TV account, and the cable company said she owed $643.
Police were called to a home at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday after a 37-year-old man said his life had been threatened. The victim said a 61-year-old man came to his home and told him that he had 15 minutes to get out before the older man would return. He told the victim that when he came back he wouldn't be talking, he would be shooting, the victim said.
A school principal called police after she said she was threatened by some students' parent. The principal told deputies that the mother of students who are siblings came to her office and told her that she would cause her bodily harm if anything happened to her children.
A man had his car towed at 3 p.m. Wednesday after he mistakenly parked it in the wrong place. The car owner told deputies he made an agreement with another man that he could leave his car on the man's property. When he had the car towed to the property, he inadvertently parked it on another man's property. That man had the vehicle towed.
A man was taken to a hospital at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday when police found him sitting outside his car after it had been driven over a concrete barrier in a restaurant parking lot. When an officer approached the man and asked what happened, he couldn't tell him. The man smelled like alcohol and told the officer he had no idea how his car had gotten over the barrier. He complained of a hurt wrist and was taken to an emergency room by ambulance.
A cab driver was arrested at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday after police found marijuana and an illegal gun in his cab. Officers saw two suspicious men near the cab. When they spotted the officers, all three men jumped in the cab and took off. When they stopped for police, officers smelled marijuana on all three men and discovered a .38-caliber handgun and numerous small bags of marijuana.
A 20-year-old woman called police after she said she was accosted at a grocery store. The woman told officers a man grabbed her buttocks as she was entering the store. She asked the cashiers if he had paid with a credit card or check but he had used cash. She will look at the store video surveillance tape to try and identify him for police, a report said.
